Five Thoughts on a Friday – The “Where to Start?” Edition

Wow, what a week in the world of the weird, wild, and wacky we’ve just had. Happy Friday everyone. We’ve had a lot of things to choose from this week, so in typical Beerbarrel fashion we’re going to throw together some random stories that will hopefully at least think about cracking a smile. Let’s get started on it, shall we?

  1. The problem with having such a wide variety of stories to pick from this week, is figuring out where to start. How about in the Savannah, GA area? That’s where researches have finally found the location of a missing colonial area fort. Now, I realize it wasn’t all that large, and it was way back in the day, and there was – you know – a war going on at the time… But how exactly does one go about losing the location of a fort??? “It was JUST HERE! I swear, this is where we left it!” Still, thought it was cool, so I figured I would pass it along.
  2. It seems that even as a former commander-in-chief, there are a few things that are still out of President Clinton’s reach. Including being able to talk Led Zepplin into reuniting. Maybe he just didn’t use the correct approach. Maybe he should have said he was “On a mission from God“? Worked for these guys…
  3. If you spend anytime reading back through this blog, you’ll see that we’ve mentioned a run of bad events on cruise ships. All of them applying to Carnival cruise lines. You know, running aground in Italy, engine fires and overflowing toilets at sea, breaking lose at the dock, failed inspections, and now… two people going overboard offshore of Australia. I don’t know about you, but I think you’d have a hard time convincing me to even set foot on one of their boats right now. They keep trying to come back though. And every time I read another one of these stories, all I can think of is Mickey’s advice to Rocky in the original movie. “Down, stay down!” In otherwords, waive the white flag already folks. Change your name, something, anything!
  4. I always like to be able to include something about cars in these posts. I always like to include something from the “You’re not real bright, are you?” department in these posts. Every now and then, those two meet up to provide an ideal entry to use in this space. I think the title says it all… Watch A Corvette-Driving Idiot Fail At Donuts Then Commit Hit-And-Run.
  5. Lastly, this comes to us under the “It’s been done” heading. Big headline – “Man uses spoon to break out of Russian maximum-security prison“.  The article goes on to link to another article, and describes how “using only a spoon” to dig a hole through the cell’s ceiling and escape. The authors seem very impressed by that. Apparently they don’t remember the movie “Escape From Alcatraz“.  As I mentioned… It’s been done.

Okay folks, that’s five and I’m out of here. Time to go get the boat tuned up and ready to go fishing. That’s right, Beer’s out again next week. A fishing boondoggle is on tap. Don’t worry though, I’ll make sure to leave to blog in good hands. Heck, the guys will probably need to do another round of picks here soon anyways. In the meantime, since we closed with a Clint Eastwood reference, let’s go with that today!

Have a great weekend!

Five thoughts on a Friday – And we’re off addition (or videopalooza addition with no Beer)

Ahhh..it’s finally here….The unofficial start of summer. Although being in the midwest, we’ve been having an earlier summer type year so far then we have had in the past. Not that I’m complaining, but I just know that at some point we’re going to pay for it. Speaking of paying for it, let’s get this party started, shall we?

5.  Now I’ll admit that I’ve played my fair share of video games.  In those games, I’ve had my fair share of zombie kills.  And for a while killing zombies was cool and fun, but I think these guys have taken it to the extreme!  I personally like the question by the one guy, “Can I bring my own weapons?”   I know my favorite weapon in those video games is the chain saw…hmm, can I bring this one?

4. With all the super hero movies coming out this year, the question always comes up..”why are there not any real super heroes?”  We did see an increase of people claiming to be super heroes in the past, with one of the most famous being Phoenix Jones.  My question has always been, okay..where are the villians?  Looks like they a coming out to play now:

3. I know that Hollywood has run out of ideas.  I think the movie Battleship proved it until  I just saw a trailer for a movie that will finally prove my point!

Just for the record.  I do know it’s fake….but are we really far off from this???

2.  Hmmm, I’m a fan of the Men in Black films, but I’m surprised they never did any cross promotions with the actual Men in Black organization.  Um, King…are you drunk already?  Nah, hell Dan Ankroyd believes in them!

1. Speaking of cross promotions, men in black and Dan Ankroyd…Rest in Peace “Donald Duck” Dunn.

Well everyone, have a great holiday weekend. Be safe, bar b que, grill, drink and enjoy!

Five thoughts on a Friday…The heavy on movies edition

Friday again already. Hard to complain when you’re staring at a weekend, isn’t it? Let’s see where today leads us…

  1. So last weekend, The Karate Kid offed the A-Team for the top spot at the box office. I wonder… was it Wax on, or Wax off?
  2. Saw what may be one of the dumbest advertisements the other day. It was fear mongering at it’s best. The ad says “Stop the spread of bacteria in your home” or some such nonsense. The product? An automatic soap dispenser. See, if you don’t have to touch it, you won’t get those icky, nasty bacteria on your hands! Of course, isn’t the point of WASHING your hands with soap and water to clean them? And doesn’t the touching of the soap dispenser occur BEFORE said washing? Meaning any minuscule amount of bacteria you pick up from touching the soap dispenser… would get washed away anyways? Listen, if you really want to throw your money away that badly, send it to us! Happy we could clear that one up.
  3. With the next World of Warcraft expansion approaching, it seems the people who try to steal account information (commonly referred to as being “hacked”) are really stepping up their phishing efforts. I get several emails from them every day. To an email that I’ve never used for the game. Heck, I’m even getting emails warning my my account could be suspended on games I’ve never even played or registered for! Nice to see they don’t discriminate. The account I did use, ironically, has never gotten a single email from them.
  4. I can’t even begin to list the number of things that started running through my head when I saw the headline: Flight Attendant Helps Land Plane When First Officer Falls Ill. Did he have the fish? Was he wearing a Lakers jersey? They bought their tickets. They knew what they were getting into. Where they also out of coffee? If you have no clue what I’m talking about, go rent Airplane!, right now.
  5. They were, after all…. “On a Mission from God“. And it was one of the all time great movies ever made.

That’s five for today and we’re out of here. Before we go though, a happy Father’s day to all you Dads out there, including our very own King.

Have a great weekend folks!
